Goose Update

The geese have started laying again!  This was the first egg laid, about a week ago, and three more have been laid since.  Crossing fingers and toes we get some goslings this year to fatten up for next Christmas.

Ben and Em's Visit

Nigel's son Benjamin and his wife Emma came over for a visit recently.  Ben and I share 10th Feb as our birthday so it was nice to celebrate together, Nigel cooked us a lovely birthday cake and meal in the evening.  Emma enjoyed herself acting as Nigel's "little helper", going up and feeding the animals and helping to clean them out.  Ben got to try snails (which he didnt like) and they both really enjoyed their first taste of rabbit.

Roast Duck

This is a picture of our first home grown roast duck and it was absolutely delicious!  There wasn't a huge amount of meat on him, just enough to feed the two of us, so we are hoping the next batch of ducks we hatch from the eggs currently being laid by the ducks in the "Pond compound" will grow bigger, should do with Fred the Rouen Clair as the father (he is huge!).

Minnie's First Egg!

Claude and Minnie, our two remaining French White Maran chickens, have reached maturity and today Minnie laid her first egg!  Bless her heart it is only a small (mini) egg but is still bigger than a normal first egg the other hybrids laid  (It's sitting on a teaspoon in the pic).  We are now searching for a new home for Marlon so we can bring these two out to join the other hens.  We don't really want to kill Marlon as he is so beautiful, glossy feathers and lovely colours, he is such a lovely cockerel it would be a shame to eat him.  Unfortunately he can't stay though because we don't want him to "spoil" Minnie, we want Claude to be the "man of the flock" now, he is such a handsome boy!.
